To study whether herbal medicinal mixture Xihuangwan can induced apoptosis of Bel-7402 cells in vitro and the dynamic change of intracellular-free calcium level ( i) .Apoptosis induced by serum containing Xihuangwan was investigated by agarose gel electrophoresis. Flow cytometry was used to measure the change of intracellular-free calcium level ( i) .After treatment with Xihuangwan, nuclear DNA of the Bel-7402 cells exhibited DNA ladder. i was significantly higher than that in control groups, especially at the beginning stage of apoptosis.Xihuangwan may be able to induce apoptosis of Bel-7402 cell line. The increase of i might be one of the mechanisms of Bel-7402 cellar apoptosis.
