WT5”BZ]The aims of this study were to explore the diagnostic values of evoked potentials (EP) and psychometric tests in detection of subclinical hepatic encephalopathy (SHE) The methods were that EP and psychometric tests were performed in 36 patients with liver cirrhosis and followed up for one year to detect the development of overt hepatic encephalopathy (HE) The results showed that 18 patients (50%) were found abnormal with EP detection and 16 cses (42%) were found abnormal in psychometric tests In total, 28 cases (77%) were found abnormal with EP and/or psychometric tests Among 34 cases followed up for one year, 19 of 26 (73%) with abnormal evoked potenialsand/or psychometric tests developed to overt hepatic encephalopathy, compared to 2 of 8 (25%) with normal evoked potential and psychometric tests (P<0 05) We concluded that there was added advantage of performing three kinds of EP and psychometric tests to detect SHE and to predict the development of overt hepatic encephalopathy [WT5”HZ]
