Therapeutic efficacy of polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine on fatty liver disease

Objective To investigate the clinical therapeutic efficacy of polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine (Essentiale) on fatty liver disease patients. Methods 102 patients with fatty liver were randomly divided into the therapy group (54 cases) and the control group (48 cases) . The therapy group received combined therapy plus Polyunsaturated Phosphatidylcholine 465mg in 5% glucose solution of 250ml intravenously per day for 1 mouth followed by Polyunsaturated Phosphatidylcholine 465mg for 5 months. The control group received only combined therapy for 6 mouths. Results ALT, AST, TG and liver histology were improved significantly and B-ultrasound result became normal in the treatment group compared to the control group (P<0.05) .Conclusion Polyunsaturated Phosphatidylcholine improves the liver function and liver histopathology in patients with fatty liver. It is effective and safe in the treatment of fatty liver disease.
